09, 2009.Survived by his wife of 27 years Susan, three children
Brittany (24), Matthew (21), Ryan (18), sisters Susan Hodges
and Carolyn McKinley, and mother Lottie Gotschall.
Ed was born in Steubenville Ohio and raised in Shadyside Ohio.
He attended Shadyside High School and graduated in 1973 as
Valedictorian. He lettered in football, basketball and golf. He
attended Ohio State University and graduated from Arizona State
University with a BS Degree in Accounting in 1979.
He moved his family to Southern California in 1982. He worked for
Touche Ross, Security Pacific International Finance, Pacific
Savings, and Plaza Home Mortgage. He co-founded Option 1 Mortgage.
In 1995 he
co-founded New Century Financial Corporation with Bob Cole and Brad Morrice.
Ed was Co-Chairman of the Mission Hospital Capital Campaign from
2006 – 2008.
He was honored with the Sister Martha Ann
Fitzpatrick Vision Award.
He was honored in 2005 by the Boy Scouts of America as a 'Man Of
Character'.
Ed co-chaired Valentasia at Santa Margarita Catholic High School.
At a time of need Ed served as a financial adviser to the Pop
Warner Football Program. He coached T-Ball, Soccer, and Basketball
for many years.
He served on the Boards of Mission Hospital Foundation, Camino Health Center, Advanced Text
and Data, Image Printing Solutions and the Orange County Council of
the Boy Scouts of America.
Ed was a loving husband and father and valued his family above
all else. He was a wonderful,
optimistic and upbeat friend to many people. He was generous with
his ideas and resources to a fault. Coming from humble beginnings, he
confronted life’s challenges and had only positive things to say
about others.
His love for sports was legendary- especially for
football, including the Ohio State University Buckeyes, USC
Trojans, and Santa Margarita Eagles. Despite his passion for these three teams, he never
criticized the competition.
Ed passed away quietly, at peace, while watching a re-play of the
Fiesta Bowl with Ohio State.
Services will be held at Saddleback Church in Lake
